There Can Only Be One

If I can have one more wish for Christmas, it would be a Celtics loss to the Lakers. (And 10 more losses for the season.) I don't really hate the Celtics. It would even be OK for me if they win back-to-back championships. But I would really hate it if they win 70 games this season. For me, the 1996-97 Bulls is the only one deserving of that accomplishment.

What is the logical reason for me not wanting the Celtics to reach, the what was once thought to be impossible goal, 70 wins? I have no logical reason. I think it's just natural for us basketball fans to be protective of such unique records. We never want these records to be "just another record." We want them to be immortalized.

... In the end, there can only be one.

My opinion on this is that records are made to be broken. Unless every team is winning 70 games, Bull'
s 72-10 would still be relevant. Unless basketball teams are getting funky with performance enhancing drugs, 72-10 would still be relevant. Unless Kadeem Hardison or every other team has a 6th man with supernatural powers, 72-10 would still be relevant.

As for wishing the Celtics to loose the next 10 games, you need to look at their schedule to be realistic.

Fri, Dec 26 @ Golden State
Sun, Dec 28 @ Sacramento
Tue, Dec 30 @ Portland
Fri, Jan 2 Washington
Sun, Jan 4 @ NY Knicks
Tue, Jan 6 @ Charlotte
Wed, Jan 7 Houston
Fri, Jan 9 @ Cleveland
Sun, Jan 11 @ Toronto
Mon, Jan 12 Toronto

Out of those teams only Portland, Houston and Cleveland have winning records.

Amen to the Lakers winning on Christmas day.

By the way, I would just like to declare that the bet for Lakers to reach 70 wins is now officially forfeited due to a Jordan Farmar 2 month injury.

Dude, I was wishing for the Celtics to lose 10 more games for the rest of the season. This doesn't necessarily mean their next 10 games.

@Cricket

(sorry this is off topic)

COME ON! Jordan Farmar!? He's the Lakers' freakin' 9th man or something. That's definitely not a "devastating injury" to the team. I say we continue the bet.

I also used to think that the Bulls season was going to be one in a million thing but the Celts and Cavs are looking to prove everyone wrong. Yes, I did not mention the Lakers on purpose. If anything, I'm starting to wonder why a 70-win season doesn't happen more often.

But I think it's got more to do with the mediocrity of the rest of the league than anything those two Eastern teams are doing.

And I actually didn't notice Farmar do anything this season. Continue the bet.

Pardon for the mis-read dude. My day has been quite hazy

Hahaha.. Farmar is now officially a scape-goat.

If Farmar was not injured, would injuries to Josh Powell (13 Games, 79 mins), Chris Mihm (9 Games, 48 mins) and Sun Yue (1 Game, 5 mins) cause a forfeit as well?

How about injuries to the following Lakers staff?

Phil Jackosn
Kurt Rambis (Asst. Coach)
Brian Shaw (Asst. Coach)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Asst. Coach)
Craig Hodges (Asst. Coach)
Mitch Kupchak (GM)

Good job done by LA btw. I was not able to catch the game but will try to view the re-runs later.
