...the upcoming national collegiate basketball championship tournament in the Philippines. It is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the country's national basketball federation. It's format is similar to the one used in the United States' NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, with 250 teams coming from nine different regional areas nationwide. The champion of this tournament will represent the Philippines in the Universiade (World University Games) basketball tournament. [1]The format is a single elimination round, meaning one loss and you're out. It started with 250 teams, and now it's down to 6 - Ateneo being one of the survivors, and the others are: DLSU, San Beda College, Letran, FEU, and Arellano University.
At present, Ateneo and La Salle have claimed the first two seats of the Final Four, awaiting the results of the FEU-Letran, and San Beda-Arellano matches respectively.
I haven't been paying much attention to this league before, but I am getting a bit excited now because there is a huge chance that Ateneo will be going up against La Salle again for the championship, or even better, against the San Beda Red Lions who used to be their arch-rivals during the NCAA days.
Notes: Ateneo is currently defending the PCCL crown this season (meaning they won it last year). Ryan Buenafe, arguably the second best offensive player of the Blue Eagles, hasn't been playing in this league because "he hasn't been getting enough practice time due to his studies." -- Coach Norman Black. UE, the 2006 PCCL champion, just got eliminated in a close game by La Salle last Sunday, November 30.
Go ATENEO!

If this school pride would benefit us with an increased subscribers actually reading this blog, I'm all for it.
Now my thoughts on this. Currently PCCL, with its collection of various league champions, doesn't get 1/10 of the UAAP/NCAA clout. I sincerely hope this gets improved as I believe that there are a lot of great basketball players in places other than Metro Manila (similar to the idea that there are alot of great looking girls in places other than Metro Manila)
It'll start to get increased clout when the schools actually play all their frigging star players.
DLSU is without Rico and Ateneo without Ryan? It's just like a summer warm-up league.
Jino's comment maybe thru, but this case is like that of the chicken and the egg.
Star players are out because the league has no clout, there's no clout because there are no star players involved. Thus it's sporting the summer league look.
I certainly hope that some steps in college basketball is taken to address it something similar to having this crown be the mother of all crowns that might help
You mean "true", dude.
What the hell is a Basketball Arvil anyway?!?
Yes I meant to say TRUE. THanks for pointing out my grammar!
